Perry Mason was a show about a lawyer and his cases, airing from 1957-1966. The character Perry Mason was played by Raymond Burr. He works with Della Street (played by Barbara Hale) and Paul Drake (played by William Hooper).

Mason is an intelligent, dependable, and diligent man who is dedicated to his clients. My favorite example of this is in an episode where a female college student has to take the stand. She gets very emotional during her testimony. When the judge calls for a recess, she quickly leaves the courtroom. Little does her parents know that she plans to jump from the window outside the courtroom, but a group of people follow her. She moves to jump, but Mason steps in to stop her. He’s kind yet firm in coaxing her down from the ledge.

One of my favorite episodes is “The Case of the Lonely Heiress.” A young woman kills her husband in jealousy of how he was acting in trying to con a woman out of her inheritance. Mason is kind to the woman and works on the case.

The show itself was rather unique. It wasn’t a Western story like most others at the time were. It gave viewers the opportunity to watch something sophisticated and thought provoking.

Perry Mason’s character keeps me coming back. The way he acts with the other characters, primarily his clients but also Della and Paul, really makes me like him as a fictional character.
