Coffee House Moved Back a Day

By Hannah Zimmerman

Every year students come together and perform with poems, music and art. The Coffee House in the past years has been held on a Thursday and a Friday, but this year, it is to be held on a Wednesday and a Thursday. Not only is the new day a change, but this year National Honors Society members are helping out.

“It is something to look forward to when we come back from a Monday,” sophomore Austin Shariff said. “I like performing in front of people and this year it isn’t as far away being on a Wednesday instead of a Thursday.”

Coffee House will lead into a four-day weekend for the students this year. The english teachers and media specialists will get a relaxing week to get to watch the students perform. NHS members are helping make sure everything goes smoothly while earning the volunteer hours they need. The NHS members will make this year’s Coffee House more enjoyable for the students, teachers and performers as they will be helping make sure everything goes as planned.

“It doesn’t negatively affect them,” english teacher Diane Fingers said. “It is a good thing the way they organize it. It is a nice way to end the week to go into the new week. I personally like seeing the kids doing what they do.”

New days, new help, but the reason behind the Coffee House remains the same. The Coffee House is a place for anyone to perform and do what they enjoy to do. No matter the time or date students will get to come and watch and enjoy their peers’ performances whether it be music, art or poetry.

“It’s a celebration of written and spoken word,” media specialist Angie Davis said. “It started in 2004 and we’ve been doing it ever since. The kids are always very respectful and well behaved so they must be super entertained.”
