HOSA Members Attend Pre-Plunge Event

On Feb. 22 members in HOSA went to a pre-plunge event at Creve Coeur Lake Park. This event was held to promote the actual Polar Plunge on Feb. 25.
“We were invited to this event because we were the school who raised the most money for the Polar Plunge,” HOSA club sponsor Matthew Riffee said. “FHN has raised $4500 so far.”
HOSA members that raised over $75 for the Polar Plunge were invited to go to the pre-plunge, and 17 students ended up going. Everyone arrived at 5:45 a.m. and the jump happened at 7 a.m. After the jump, students headed home and got time to shower and change before coming back to school by third hour.
“We were invited to participate in the pre-plunge last year, but the event got cancelled because it snowed on the day it was supposed to happen,” senior Drew Lanig said.
The Polar Plunge raises money for the Special Olympics of Missouri. This organization hosts the promotional pre-plunge event. The event is broadcasted on the FOX 2 Morning Show.
“It was fun to get out of class and hang with people. It’s cool to say that we were on the news,” senior Gianna Sulzner said.
26 members of HOSA are jumping in the Polar Plunge this Saturday at Creve Coeur Lake Park. The day starts at 11 a.m. with registration, and then each school takes turns jumping in the lake. All the schools jumping have a costume theme, and FHN’s theme is farm animals. After the jump, there are different booths and activities going on throughout the rest of the day.
“We love participating in the Polar Plunge because it’s an opportunity to participate a charitable event that gives back to the community and the state,” Riffee said.
