Boys of FHN Compete in StuCo’s Annual Mr. FHN Pageant

On Friday, April 21, FHN StuCo held the annual Mr. FHN competition. Each year, students from around the school participate in the male beauty pageant to win the title of Mr. FHN. The contestants performed a group dance, showed off their formal (and not-so-formal) attire, showed their skills and talents, and answered questions given by judges on the spot.
“My favorite part of Mr. FHN was honestly just having fun with the guys,” senior Zac Cary said. “Although they were mostly seniors, I wouldn’t have [gotten to know] them had it not been for Mr. FHN.”
A major purpose of Mr. FHN is to raise money for different charities. Each contestant spends several weeks before the competition raising money for a charity organization of their choice. A couple of this year’s organizations included Variety Children’s Club Theatre and the Nahed Chapman New American Academy. The students raised money in several ways, such as selling homemade cupcakes and giving out cake balls and brownie balls to those who donated to their cause. Senior Bryce Perry raised over $300 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by collecting donations and even donating his own paycheck.
“I love kids,” Perry said. “I want every kid to have equal opportunities . . . I felt like [donating my own paycheck] was the best way for me to raise money.
Perry ultimately ended up winning the crown for Mr. FHN. His talent portion of the pageant saw the audience roaring with laughter as he recited his “thank you”s to the school. Other talents and performances of the night included leg waxing, a presentation of student and teacher lookalikes, and a feminism-inspired dance routine.
“I think most of the other guys had funny talents, and I think the audience really liked that and enjoyed it,” junior Christian Witte said. “It was such an awesome crowd and experience.”
