On Friday, May 12, the vegetarian club held their second dinner of the year in FHN’s community garden. The community garden is also a project of the vegetarian club. The vegetarian club is a new club this year and has collected new members over the past couple of months.

“[I hope that the club] continues to grow and get new members, that we explore new ways to grow plants, and that perhaps we could build it back into the science curriculum,” vegetarian club sponsor Yvonne Kehoe said.

The tickets for the dinner cost $6 and featured vegetarian-friendly foods. There was macaroni and cheese, veggie pizza, chili, vegetarian sandwiches, etc. Each member of the club was required to contribute to this potluck.

“This dinner was better because we had music and better scenery,” junior and vice president of vegetarian club Olivia Archibald said.

Unlike the last dinner, this one included entertainment. Seniors Michael Shine and Ethan Samson performed covers and originals songs from their band MESS. Vegetarian club member junior Svetlana Fedderson also performed covers on her ukelele.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it,” Kehoe said. “I think the addition of the music really set the tone for the garden and I think that people got an introduction into the garden and I think that hopefully I stirred up some excitement about it.” (Photos by Kyra Peper)
