Next year is rolling right around the corner and the sponsors and mentors of FHN have been preparing for next year’s Freshmen Transition Day, that will take place on August 4 in the large gym.

“I’m excited for the freshmen because they get to start making friends and connections with the students of FHN that can help them grow academically and socially,” mentors sponsor Kristen Johnson said. “My personal favorite part is seeing the freshmen excited. If they have a positive feeling about the year then they can set if off on the right foot.”

Mentors will be at FHN at 6:15 a.m. to start the day and all of the freshman won’t be arriving until approximately 7:20 a.m. There’s one big change this year which is, there’s going to be no buses picking up students that day. The sponsors and mentors are trying to work to keep the attendance up for that day since there will be no transportation available.

“I’m excited to attend freshman transition day so I can see the excited and curious faces of the freshmen class of 2021 when they walk in the doors and begin a new chapter of their lives,” mentor and sophomore Nina Bright said.

The day will consist of starting with an assembly to make the freshmen more comfortable around their new surroundings. After the assembly, mentors will meet with their group of freshmen and take them on a tour of the school. If there’s enough time then the mentors will take them through their schedule. After that they meet for a little bit and bond and go to lunch afterwards. Then, they go back to their mentors and go to the activities fair. The day ends around 1 p.m. for freshmen and 2 p.m. for mentors.

“I think I’m mostly excited because it’s going to remind me of my transition day and what I needed and who I wanted to meet,” sophomore and mentor Alayna Autoomp said. “I hope I can be a good guide to the freshmen.”
