Girls 2017 Tennis Season Preview

On Tuesday Aug. 8, Varsity girls tennis kicked off their new season with a match against Fort Zumwalt West. Since then, the team has competed in 5 matches. The team is looking forward to their season. With a strong varsity team and a returning coach that had the previous season to get to know the team, the team is excited to see their improvements.

“I am looking forward to having fun with the girls and watching them improve and grow as players,” head coach Beth Jameson said. “We had a strong season last year and we have good returning players.”

The tennis team typically has 2-5 regular season matches per week. The team will have practices every weekday that they don’t have a match. These practices will typically last two hours and the team will focus on working on basic skills, drills and court positioning.

“Our schedule can be rigorous sometimes,” Katie Prinkey, junior and varsity tennis player said. “Sometimes it can feel like a lot, but it is worth it when it comes to the matches and you can see how the practices pay off.”

The players on the team are anticipating a promising record. Because of their practice schedule, the varsity team feels more prepared for this year than previous ones. They have had many practices since the beginning of the season in preparation and believe that it will pay off.

“I am excited,” Jameson said. “The girls are doing good and we have had some good matches and we have had some other matches that have been more for learning experiences. This will help us to get prepared for our more competitive matches. I feel like we have potential to do well in the future.”

The varsity girls tennis team’s next home match will be against Francis Howell Central on Friday Sept. 1.
