Will Varsity Football Recover from Their Loss on 9/15?

The Francis Howell North Knights took on the Francis Howell Vikings on the night of Sept. 15 at Howell. Knights fought hard in the game against the Vikings, thus being their first game against FHHS. Vikings took the win with a 35 point lead with the final score being 42-7.
“Knowing it was going to be a tough game against a good team, I just knew we had to come out and fight,” Coach Mike Castro said.
During the first quarter of the game, the Knights fought as they progressed down the field in attempt to score a touchdown. Howell came with a strong defense not allowing FHN to get past. In the second quarter, FHHS made an interception with a minute and 30 seconds left to go. Knights weren’t so happy when the Vikings continued to get the ball back and score several more touchdowns. Coaches yelled as the team worked to tackle the Viking as he made his way into the end-zone.
“I think we could’ve ran the ball more, it was very successful throughout the game, but I think everyone did a great job, players and coaches,” sophomore Jalen Fleming said.
The Knights went hard in the third quarter to get some type of leverage on the Vikings. The offense worked hard and it paid off as Ronald Woods scored a touchdown for Howell North. FHN was happy but knew it was one of many needed touchdowns to get back in the game. After the Knights’ kick-off, the Vikings answered right back with a rushing touchdown to make the score 42-7, which later became the final score.
“I think we came up and since last year they came out really well and just kind of believe, I just got to believe that we’re going to come out to deal with it,” Castro said.
FHN’s following game is against Francis Howell Central on Sept. 22 for FHN’s homecoming game. Howell North, with a 1-4 record, are hoping to come back and start a great winning streak. This was the last time the Knights play the Vikings this season.
“Honestly I think that this is one of the best games, we’ve had a lot of distractions this year and so I’m proud on how we came together and actually played like a team. The score might not reflect it, but with a few changes we could turn our season around,” Fleming said.
