Junior Anton Coelen is the varsity kicker for the Knights varsity football team this year. Coelen is a foreign exchange student who is originally from Berlin, Germany.

Coelen originally played soccer in Germany. His main position in soccer was striker, which is an attacking position in the sport.

When he first came to North, he started out playing soccer with the varsity squad and really enjoyed it. Then Missouri State Athletic Association said he was not allowed to play on the varsity level for soccer.

“Since I was not allowed to play soccer, coach Bevill called me down to the activities office and asked if I would be okay with kicking a football for his team,” Coelen said.

Coelen really enjoys being around the football environment, especially his teammates and the fans.

“What I love most is the atmosphere at the game,” Coelen said. “I also love the passion that my teammates have towards the game.”

So far this year, Coelen has been the most reliable kicker for the Knights. He has been perfect on his PAT attempts this year as well as gaining plenty of memories to take back to Germany.

“My favorite memory so far is when I scored the game winning PAT against Ft. Zumwalt South,” said Coelen.

The Knights beat the Bulldogs that game 28-27 thanks to Coelen’s play. The Knights next game will be against the Timberland Wolves at Timberland on Friday Oct. 6, 2017.
