With one meet already under the team’s belt, the varsity girls swim team is looking forward to their upcoming meet on Friday vs. Mccluer North. Now that the newcomers have dipped their toes in the water and gotten comfortable with how meets work, everyone is settled and ready to improve from the previous meet. In previous years, the girls have been highly successful in this meet and hope to continue the streak.

“In the past we have done really well at this meet,” junior and varsity swimmer Hannah Miller said. “I think we should be able to place really well and keep that standing. I hope we at least place in first or second.”

With such success in recent years, the team is focusing a lot on their mental preparation. Although they expect success they also understand the work and time needed to be successful and incorporate their understanding into how they prepare for this meet.

“We really just need to not let our past years of being there and doing well get to our heads,” Miller said. “We just got to keep putting in hard work at practice. We need to make sure we have our starts and turns on point so we don’t lose pointless time.”

Another main focus of the meet is to win as a team as opposed to as an individual. Even though swim is thought to be mostly an individual sport, the team believes you should support and cheer on one another. This camaraderie helps get individual wins which in turn helps the team win as a whole.

“The coach [Joshua Galati] is really good about keeping us as a team and cheering each other on and being there for each other,” junior and varsity swimmer Megan Crain said. “Even though we do acknowledge individuals we are focused on the team.”
