A funny joke, a hilarious meme or a witty bit of satire, this can add a bit of joy and laughter to anyone’s day. One student has realized his knack for this talent, junior Zion Perry aspires to be a comedian and plans to perform stand up.

“I grew up in a very unserious family,” said Perry. “We joked around and played pranks on each other, so I really think that’s where it stems from.”

Perry has studied by watching different comedians such as Brian Regan and Louis C.K. He has also spent countless hours at night coming up with different jokes. He has been known among his friends, in and out of band, as someone who can always make them laugh out loud.

“Something I can say about Zion’s comedy,” said junior Devon Allen. “It’s that he’s really quick to get the humor of a joke.”

One of the key points that Perry utilizes in his jokes is relatability. He takes time to come up with funny one-liners and punchlines that speak to his audience of peers. Another way he performs his jokes is in the style of rants.

“I’ve been told that I am the least intimidating man on this earth,” said Perry. “So when I get angry, I get very funny.”

Perry plans to perform in open mic nights with the routine that has taken him months to prepare. He has shown some of it to his friends and has received positive reviews from them. He has also consulted comedians he has met before to find tips on how to further improve his skills in stand up. Perry hopes to bring happiness and relatability to people.

“He works really hard to come up with his jokes,” said junior Sophia Schmidt. “It is really funny to me.”
