On Tuesday, Jan. 16, Francis Howell North’s JV girls basketball team played a tough game against the Timberland Timberwolves. The Knights took a good five point lead in the first quarter with the score ending 8-3. They put forth a lot of effort to keep the lead against the Timberwolves.
“I played my best, had a few moments where I was frustrated but I made some shots and was okay with it.” Bryana Meitz said
The second quarter came around and North and Timberland were playing with a lot of fire. The Timberwolves started catching up with the Knights on the scoreboard. Timberland called a timeout with 2:01 left in the second quarter, giving North a few seconds to strategize a better plan to come back. A wide-open Isabella Delarue sank a three pointer to put the Knights ahead, but not for long, as the Wolves came back to tie the score up. Putting almost all their effort to keep the lead, the Knights and Wolves ended up with a score of 17-17 at the end of the second quarter.
“I thought it was really exciting that Delarue made the three point shot to put us ahead for a bit,” Clayton Burbank said.
Starting the third quarter off with a bang giving their all to push the numbers on the scoreboard up just a little to get ahead of the Timberwolves, Timberland calls a timeout at 6:32. The Knights hoped with this timeout, they could figure out a game plan to help get their numbers up. As time dwindled down in the quarter, Timberland was able to jump to a two point lead and looked to keep it going all quarter. The Knights tried to catch up, but they started to face fatigue.
“Good because we are doing way better than we thought we were going to do.” Meitz says.
With the Timberwolves still leading as the game was nearing its end, Miller fouled at 1:43, giving the Wolves a free throw. This became a common theme in the winding minutes of the game, as the Knights were looking to get the ball back from Timberland. However, the Timberwolves were able to keep possession and pulled away from the Knights, winning by a final score of 43-25.
