With the school year in full swing, the Drama department is working hard and preparing for the fall play by beginning the audition process. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, they will host their annual audition workshop.

This is the first big event of the year for the drama department, it offers the opportunity to start the year off with an easy introduction to the program. Drama Club president, Riley Lawson, is excited to start the year off strong with this event.

“The audition workshop is basically a way for those who are new to Drama to get used to the audition process,” Lawson said. “We run through the format of auditions, what to expect there, examples of what to do and what not to do and show different monologues which is what will be used for the actual audition.”

The event is designed to assist new performers in their auditions and help them become more comfortable with what they are going to face in drama. It is also used as a catalyst for improvement to those that have been acting and auditioning for years and would like to advance their abilities.

“I really am excited to see new people and how they are approaching the audition process, because they all have their own unique interpretations and style of acting,” Lawson said.

While the event has an emphasis on the visual and theatrical side of drama, Drama Club officer Haley Peer hopes the workshop will benefit the department with reaches past performance, but as a group.

“The workshop really helps bring us together and form a community,” Peer said. “It’s just really nice to help people find their place in this very diverse club and to see them get involved without being scared or uncomfortable.”

After the workshop, on Tuesday, Sept. 4, will be the initial auditions. Following auditions will be callbacks, where those casting the roles can ask for a second look at the actors to further place them into a role best suited for them.
