On Thursday, Sept. 27 Francis Howell North boys varsity soccer fell to Fort Zumwalt West, in a close game by a final score of 1-0. This loss extends the losing streak against the Jaguars to three games. Defenseman Peter Moxley helped the team hold the back line together during Fort Zumwalt West’s high pressure.

“The team didn’t feel as confident going into this game, because we lost last year twice against them and they beat some big teams this year.” Moxley said.”We knew the type of pressure they would give while we had the ball.”

Fort Zumwalt West scored their game winning goal about mid way through the second half. Unfortunately the Knights couldn’t get the ball moving as much after that. Dane McManus was a strong leader in trying to get the ball up the field by making runs. In the end, the Knights offense couldn’t seem to find the back of the net.

“We played good defense and created good chances, but couldn’t seem to get the ball up as much once they scored.” Said McManus.

Next week the Knights will play Holt and CBC on the road. They need to find what they need to do to win in practices leading up to those games. Their momentum will need to come from putting in work at practice and finding how they can penetrate the weaker areas on both teams.

“We will focus on playing strong defense and limiting our mental mistakes.” Said McManus. “Let’s focus one game at a time and make sure we take our chances.”
