Many clubs are offered to the students here at FHN. For some, these clubs and extracurricular activities help them get a better idea of what they want to do and where they want to go after high school. Senior Adam Shine is just one of many who figured out what they want to do in the future through a club. Shine is a representative for DECA along with five others.

“I started in DECA last year,” Shine said. “I plan on going into business and being an accountant of some sort.”

Shine had a successful first year in DECA. He not only went to districts, but he made it there without the help of a partner. His hard work and determination payed off in the end.

“I went to districts for the finance category which is the hardest one,” Shine said. “I didn’t advance, but it was a good learning experience.”

Senior Katie Leuthauser is also a DECA representative. She joined DECA because she knew it would be a great way to gain business experience while having fun at the same time.

“I plan to major in marketing management with an emphasis in advertising and promotion,” Leuthauser said. “I then want to receive my MBA once I finish my undergrad.”

Shine and Leuthauser both wanted a bigger role in DECA, because they had such a great experience their first year. They stepped up to the plate and set a goal to become one of the five representatives, which has now been achieved.
