3 Things We Learned From the Michael Cohen Trial
Published: March 1, 2019
Michael Cohen has been described as Donald Trump’s “Fixer,” Cohen was President Donald Trump’s lawyer from 2006 to May 2018, and, along with his legal services, Cohen served as the Vice President of the Trump organization. Recently Cohen was called upon by the Mueller investigation to testify, his testimony gave some very interesting insight into the workings of the Trump campaign and empire.
Trump Oversaw And Negotiated The Construction Of A Trump Tower In Moscow While In Office
- During the trial, Cohen gave testimony stating that President Trump was very involved with the negotiations of the construction of a Trump Tower in Moscow. “Mr. Trump knew of and directed the Trump Moscow negotiations throughout the campaign and lied about it,” Cohen said. “He lied about it because he never expected to win. He also lied about it because he stood to make hundreds of millions of dollars on the Moscow real estate project.” This claim by Cohen is so serious because it could lead to some very serious legal ramifications. During the campaign to become President, a candidate cannot be involved in any private businesses they own while they are running or in office. These business involvements could lead to the process of a possible impeachment.
Cohen Paid Stormy Daniels Hush Money
- The adult actress Stormy Daniels claimed that President Trump had sexual relations with her in 2006, she first talked about the affair in 2011 in an interview. The story didn’t get big until in 2016, allegedly Michael Cohen paid the adult actress $130,000 dollars from a shell corporation he had set up. The money was paid to Daniels a month before the 2016 election, possibly due to fears that she may make accusations of an affair. This story was made more legitimate with statements from Cohen during his trial, Cohen said that Trump paid him $35,000 as a reimbursement for paying the hush money to Stormy Daniels. Cohen presented a check with $35,000 that had Donald J. Trump as the writer and Michael Cohen as the recipient, the check could be very damaging to Trump. But will the check get the President on the stand?
There May Be More Documents
- American Media Incorporated owns the National Enquirer, one of the largest tabloids that is in print. David Pecker is the CEO of American Media Incorporated, or AMI for short. Pecker has been a long time friend of the Trump family. His allegiance to the family has prompted him to use a practice called ‘Catch and Kill’, this practice finds rumors or accusations relating to the Trump family that are floating about and debunks them in the tabloid. This practice that Pecker uses has granted him access to troves of scandalous material related to Trump and his associates. During the trial Cohen had said that the Trump family was quite concerned by the amount of material that Pecker had. If Pecker ever decides to change sides or testifies, this information could be invaluable if the President ever goes on the stand.
