Winter Guard Places Fifth in WGI Regionals

This past weekend, the varsity Winter Guard team traveled to Naperville North High School in Chicago for WGI regionals. The team placed fifth while competing against four other schools in the Scholastic Open division for both preliminaries and finals. The team got a score of 64.9 during the preliminaries and a 63 in the finals.
“The first [performance by FHN] was rough,” freshman varsity member Alaina Moore said. “We barely had any energy. The second one I felt more good about. Definitely felt more like a team when we performed.”
The last Winter Guard event was Art in Motion, a competition hosted at FHN. Varsity Winter Guard was the only Scholastic Open competitor performing.
“Being a freshman it was really interesting to see a bunch of different guards come to our school,” freshman varsity member Abigail Schmitt said. “Our performance was good.”
This weekend at Nixa High School, Winter Guard has their next competition. It’s the second to last competition before WGI World Championships in Dayton, Oh, starting April 3.
“I’m definitely nervous but I think that we’re a strong team and we’re gonna do really well [at WGI World],” Schmitt said. “It’ll be a good chance for us to develop our program and advance ourselves.”
