Senior Essence Green’s voice is a familiar one to those at FHN. Not only does Green do the morning announcements, but she is a frequent member of the North Street Coffee House, an event where students are able to showcase their talents.

“I think it’s really fun,” Green said. “There’s not a lot of opportunities for showing off your talents during school. After school, it’s kind of hard since there’s a lot more people.”

Last year, Green sang with Austin Shariff, who as a 2019 senior has performed all four years. However, since this was her first year playing alone, she was nervous as she sang the song “Killing Me Softly” by the Fugees.

“I don’t really know my absolute favorite part,” Green said. “It’s so fun, and I mean, I get to sing all day.”

Green is also a part of Knightsound, the advanced choir led by Jennifer Crane. She has been singing for many years, and has a strong passion for it, which she chose to showcase through Coffee House.

“I would definitely encourage people who want to do Coffee House to do it,” Green said. “It’s small groups at a time, and it’s scary at first but it definitely will help you get yourself out there.”
