While many graduate high school and only return to their local schools for a reunion, new social studies teacher Anastasia Hercules decided to teach within the district after having graduated rom the Francis Howell School District. After having learned within the district for many years in the past, she returned to teach U.S. history and contemporary issues.

“I think it’s a great community to work in and I really love how diverse Francis Howell North is compared to some of the other schools,” Hercules said. “I feel like the other teachers and administration are very supportive and welcoming, probably the most I’ve ever been welcomed into a school.”

In her 10 previous years of teaching, Hercules has taught at schools in Indiana and Kentucky, and she taught at Francis Howell High School last year. She decided to teach at FHN for the 2019-2020 school year.

“For the most part, students are ready to learn and willing to learn,” Hercules said. “I have been very impressed with my classes so far about how much students are engaged and participating in their own learning and success.”

As a U.S. History teacher, Hercules is teaching a lot of freshmen who are new to the building as well. She works to make sure they are learning valuable lessons from her class and wants to be a supportive figure in their lives.

“I’d like my class to be life-changing for my students,” Hercules said. “I want, most importantly, for the students to know that I care and I will do whatever it takes to help them.”

The FHN staff and students have welcomed Hercules with open arms. While it’s only a few weeks into the school year, Hercules is enjoying the new yet familiar environment.

“I’m really excited to be here,” Hercules said. “I feel like this is the place that I’m meant to be and that it’s a really good fit for me and the students.”
