The Beginning of the Knightpride Competition Season

The Knightpride Marching Band has performed their new show this year, “Freeze” at home football games. Performing at the football games has prepared the band for the competition season.
On Sep. 7, FHN’s Knightpride performed in their first competition of the season at O’Fallon Township High School in O’Fallon, IL. This year’s show is titled, “Freeze,” portraying a fun day out in the snow with the members laughing and playing. Knightpride has performed in this competition before and it is a great way to begin the season.
“I am proud of the sound we are producing this year with our small band,” sophomore mellophone Chase Oncken said. “I love how people are performing and I’m proud of where we’ve come this year.”
At O’Fallon, Knightpride placed fifth out of six teams in their class division.
“Our show isn’t complete yet,” drum major Grace Sickendick said. Sickendick has been drum major for three years and this is her senior year. “We were kinda judged as though our show was complete, so I feel as though [the judging] could have been a bit better.”
While the Knightpride marching band did not do as well as they had liked, they still enjoyed their time performing and took it as a learning experience.
“I think our performance in marching band, not just playing, but smiling at the audience and fulfilling that part as if you’re in drama has really, really improved,” Sickendick said. “Our timing was a bit of an issue from different factors and we can get those down really, really easily.”
