FHN Students Make Instagrams For Their Pets
Published: October 2, 2019
Not many people would consider making a social media account for their pet, but for junior Natalia Salazar and sophomore Rana Shaker, that’s not the case. Both students have created and curated Instagram for their friends with fur, and have turned these accounts into their own relaxing, stress-free hobbies.
In November 2017, Salazar posted first on her account, @simba.salaza, which is made just for her dog, Simba. Following about year later, in November 2018, @tr.uwu.ffle was made by Shaker to post pictures of her cat, Truffles.
“I really like taking memorable pictures of her and sharing them,“ Shaker said. “She is pretty much my baby. I love the comments that the posts will get too.”
The comments normally are positive and funny- never anything negative- ranging from declarations of love to a variety of emojis.
According to Shaker, her family also enjoys Truffles’ Instagram, finding the posts fun and the comments amusing. Although Shaker wasn’t too excited at the idea of getting a cat at first, she instantly fell in love with Truffles. The family got Truffles only a little over a year ago and plan on getting another cat.
“I didn’t really think we needed a cat, but now I love her so much,” Shaker said.
Salazar’s dog, Simba, is a two-year-old goldendoodle, loved by all of Salazar’s friends and family. While she never had strong ambitions for the account, she thought it would be a fun way to show off her dog.
“When I first made the account, it was just for fun,” Salazar said. “I never really set a goal for the account.”
Now Salazar and Shaker continue to post for fun and Simba and Truffles continue to model. Both Shaker and Salazar plan to continue posting updates on their pets through Instagram.
“When I post it makes me feel happy because it’s fun and I’m not really worrying about anything like school or the real world,” said Salazar.
