Knights Prepare for Homecoming Football Game Against FHC

By Abby Martinez

The annual Homecoming football game on Oct. 4 will be hosted by FHN against conference rival, Francis Howell Central (FHC). The game’s theme, Black Out, will continue to follow the years before and will be supported by staff and students. The team hopes to bring home a win.

“I expect us to win overall and play the game play by play,” middle linebacker Lucas Neuchwander said.

This year, FHN’s football team is a smaller team compared to last year. Every player on the team is important. With one player injured, it creates a challenge for the others on the team. But the team won’t let that stop them.

“We have a really small team this year,” Neuchwander said. “I feel like we are way more connected than years before this.”

FHC is currently one of FHN’s biggest rivals. FHN and FHC compete in the same division which will add to the excitement of the game.

“I think it will be wild, honestly,” senior tight end Drake Whitehead said. “I mean, two teams who really don’t like each other who really want to win are playing.”

The players and coaches for FHN have been pushing each other and themselves for this season; especially this game. They plan to use that effort and hard work in this game to bring home a win.

“I’m going to push myself to the max so we definitely win because the coaches want us to beat them,” Neuchwander said.

With the FHN student section, the Goonies and the parents of the players cheering them on, FHN football is ready to take on whatever they need to to win this year’s Homecoming game, especially for those who won’t have another one.

“The difference between this game for me and others is most still have another year or maybe to play, but for us seniors it’ll be our last,” Whitehead said. “It’d be really nice to win the Homecoming game.”
