Freshman Chloe Perkins Joins Varsity Girls Golf Team
Published: October 8, 2019
She finally has accomplished a goal she has been working toward. She started at age seven, and after hours, weeks, months and even years of practice, she could finally say that she did it– freshman Chloe Perkins became a part of the FHN girls golf team.
“I loved watching my mom and dad play golf when I was very little,” Perkins said. “I always wanted to play, so my dad got me golf clubs and I’ve been playing ever since.”
Clearly, she’s no stranger to the sport.
“Golf is important to me because my whole family plays it and it’s something we can all do together for fun,” Perkins said. “Plus, it would be great to get a scholarship for college.”
Even though Perkins has been playing for years, she still gets nervous feelings before she starts. Sometimes she stresses that she won’t make the first hole.
“Before I tee off the first hole, I’m a bundle of nerves,” Perkins said. “I get overly anxious expecting to play the perfect round. However, after a few holes I settle down and relax. Then by the end of the round, I’m ready to play another nine holes.”
As Perkins continues to play golf with her family and friends, she hopes to get a scholarship and play golf in college at Harvard or Stanford University.
“All of us girls on the team get along great. We’ve had a team bonding night which really brought us together. We support each other, and have lots of fun, “ Perkins said. “I feel like I’m close to all my teammates. For example, at the FHN summer golf camp, I met another freshman, Leah [Heindsmit], and a senior Leann [Smyth]. We all instantly got along great, and have been friends ever since.”
With this being Perkins and Heindsmit first year playing together, Perkins really likes having Heindsmit as a teammate because she encourages her to do better.
“I really like Leah as a teammate, she is easy going and funny. Leah is very dedicated to golf,“ Heindsmit said.
Coach Malkmus and the girls are excited and have high hopes for the season.
“For this year I’m excited to see what the girls can do this season. They have all been working so hard and I think that after more practice it will be great,” Malkmus said.

Way to go Chloe. If I had known this when you were at Barnwell I would have played a round so you could say you beat me! (not that hard actually). Go “fore”th! 🙂
