Updated Finals Schedule for Inclement Weather
Published: December 16, 2019
Update: At 3 pm on Dec. 17, Head Principal Nathan Hostetler sent an email out to parents clarifying the new finals policy for this semester. Students who are enrolled in dual-credit classes will be required to take finals, and finals will count towards their grade no matter what. This is to provide data to colleges who will be calculating grades for college credit. Exemptions could be used in dual credit classes at teacher discretion. Finals in AP classes will only count if the final impacts the student’s grade positively.
Classes who use portfolio-based projects such as PLTW or Art as a final will still have finals count towards their grades, whether or not it is positively or negatively affected.
Exemptions can be banked for later use.
Update: At 7:44 pm on Dec. 16, the Francis Howell School District announced that final exams will only be used if they raise a student’s grade. All students are still required to take finals and attend school.
After snow days on Dec. 16 and 17 of this week, FHSD administration team has made changes to the finals calendar to allow students time for review before their final exams.
Exams will maintain their normal schedule, with 1st, 2nd, and 7th hour exams taken on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 3rd and 4th hour exams on Thursday, Dec. 19 and 5th and 6th hour exams on Friday, Dec. 20.
Thursday and Friday will still be late start days, and students will not be required to be in school until 8:20. On Thursday morning beginning at 7:20, students will report to their 3rd hour instead of homeroom to receive review time with their teachers. On Friday morning, students will report to 6th hour for review.
All students are still expected to be in school on time in order to be able to take their finals. If finals are missed, there are makeup exam times on Dec. 19, Dec. 21, Jan. 2 and Jan. 3.
