TV Shows to Binge-Watch During Winter Break [Opinion]

As winter break starts, many students are left with a lot of free time and very few productive endeavors to do, leaving many bored. However, an easy way to combat boredom is to watch seasons and seasons of TV shows as quickly as possible, also known as binge-watching. With streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu and Disney Plus, the possibilities for shows to watch are plentiful, but here are some of the best. 

A staple original series of Netflix, ”Stranger Things” has three seasons and 25 episodes. The plot follows a group of four middle school boys, Dustin, Lucas, Mike, and Will, and their interactions with the Upside Down, an alternate dimension which their town has been infiltrated by. Set in Hawkins, Indiana during the ’80s, fans of sci-fi or horror would love this action-packed thriller. 

Another popular show on Netflix, “The Office”, an NBC sitcom revolving around the filming of a documentary about the average American workspace. “The Office” has characters that work for Dunder Mifflin, a mid-range paper supplier, such as Micheal Scott, Dwight Schrute, Pam Beesly, and Jim Halpert. People who want a feel-good comedy should start binging this show, with its whopping nine seasons and 201 episodes.

A new show exclusive to Disney Plus, “The Mandolorian” is a spinoff show set in the Star War’s universe. Episodes come out weekly. The show is about a bounty hunter traveling throughout the outer reaches of the Star War’s galaxy. Fans of the Star War’s franchise would like this show, especially since episode nine of the saga is set to also release this month.

A multi-award-winning drama about a high school chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin, “Breaking Bad” is available on Netflix. The series has five seasons and 62 episodes, as well as a spinoff movie “El Camino”. The plot follows Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, a high school teacher and his former student, and their path from low-level drug manufacturers, to criminal masterminds with millions of dollars. Those who like shows or movies based on crime should like this show.

Another Netflix special, “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj”, is a talk show hosted by comedian Hasan Minhaj. The show has new episodes on Sundays and talks about topics relevant to the modern world, such as the environment and global politics. Those wanting a late-night show you can also binge will like this show, which has more than 25 episodes.
