Kristen Johnson and Angela Lawson Announced Teacher and Support Staff of the Year
Published: January 19, 2021
FHN announced the teacher and support staff of the year today during seventh hour. Kristen Johnson was named teacher of the year and Angela Lawson was named support staff of the year. Administrators followed Brian Santos – FHN’s professional development representative – to the classrooms and offices of the winners, bearing flowers and a small statue in congratulations.
“This happens every January, that time of year,” Santos said. “So basically, students and faculty vote for the first round and once we accumulate all those nominations, I send that to the faculty and they choose the finalist.”
Johnson teaches Mythology, AP Language and Composition and English II. Johnson has never won this award before but is very grateful to receive it for the first time. She has always enjoyed coming to work and has been motivated by her students and fellow staff members to be the best that she can.
“There’s been a lot of people who have helped me become a teacher,” Johnson said. “It makes me reflect on all those times that I’ve been able to grow and learn because of things that other people have done for me.”
Lawson is a building information specialist, meaning she works to maintain student information, such as grades, transcripts and schedules. This is her first time winning support staff of the year. She feels appreciated for the work she has done this year regarding the new schedules made due to COVID-19 regulations and virtual learning, which have been challenging for everyone involved.
“I’m motivated everyday by the kids who walk in the building,” Lawson said. “My kids went here. I have a huge connection to this school, and I know that we’re the best. I would like to do everything I can everyday to make sure that we stay that way.”
