Cuccio Sisters Play Their First and Last Lacrosse Season Together
Published: May 7, 2021
This lacrosse season has been really special for senior Angela Cuccio. For one, it is her last year playing lacrosse for FHN. But most importantly, this year gave Angela the opportunity to play with her sister, freshman Maggie Cuccio.
While Angela started officially playing lacrosse her sophomore year, Maggie has been playing since the sixth grade. While both sisters have been playing lacrosse for about the same amount of time this is their first year that they are able to play together.
“I went to the north camp the summer before freshman year and I practiced and played. I thought it was really cool, but I was busy with club volleyball,” Angela said. “Then, that was the year that Maggie decided to start playing. So, we kind of were at different times. I wanted to play and then I ended up not, that’s when Maggie started playing. I stopped playing club volleyball so then sophomore year, I started playing lacrosse.”
The two were really close before they started playing together. However, their relationship only got stronger and they grew closer with the shared interest.
“I feel like lacrosse gives us one more thing we can talk about,” Maggie said. “We both understand what’s going on. It’s more time we get to spend together.”
While there is obviously the occasional sisterly rivalry between Angela and Maggie on and off the field, both enjoy playing together because they push each other, ultimately making each other better in the process.
“Playing with Maggie is the most amazing thing ever,” Angela said “ It’s like having your best friend on your team, and having someone that you know can push you like no one else can I’m not gonna lie, I scream at her during the games, but I know it’s out of love, and because that’s how we can communicate during sports because we do only want to see the best out of the other person.”
Even though next year Angela will no longer be playing on the field with Maggie, she does intend to support her off the field no matter what.
“I will come to every single game I possibly can,” Angela said. “I will surprise her a couple times where she doesn’t know I’m coming in town and magically be there at her lacrosse game.”
This year both Angela and Maggie realised something very important to them. It has been something that made the lacrosse season so much better for them.
“If you get the opportunity to play with your siblings, it has to be the smartest decision you will ever make in your entire life,” Maggie said. “It is the most fun during sports I’ve ever had.”
