Q&A With Dr. Lucas Lammers, New Principal of FHN
Published: August 23, 2021
What is your job at FHN?
I am the interim principal, so I’m serving as the principal for this school year.
How long have you been in the education field?
This is my 18th year. I am starting my eighteenth year in education.
Is this your first time serving as a principal?
This is my first time serving as the lead principal of a building. I have been an assistant principal, a dean of students and an associate principal. Then, of course, I was a summer school principal a couple times.
Were you a teacher before you became a principal?
Yes, I was a social studies teacher.
Is social studies your favorite topic in school then?
On the teaching side, yes. When I was a student it was math.
Have you always worked for FHSD?
No, actually my first teaching job was at University City High School. I taught social studies there. I taught there for three years then I was a social studies teacher at Francis Howell Central. I was a dean of student at Francis Howell Central and I was an assistant principal at Pattonville High School and Fort Zumwalt North High School. Then I was the associate principal at Francis Howell Central for five years and I have been Director of Secondary Education for this school district for the last three.
What are you most looking forward to this year at FHN?
Just being in the building. The daily interaction with students and staff. It’s something that you can do at the district level but it is a lot harder. You’ve got a lot of meetings and stuff going on and you have to make that special trip to get to a school. Whereas all day long every day I’m on a school campus with students and staff. You go into education to be in contact with students and staff and now I get to do that again.
