Coffee Fridays Make Their Return Every Morning Before the Start of School
Every Friday morning between 6:50-7:20, librarians Debra McDonald, Jani Wilkens and Gabrielle Weston are busy serving various types of coffee to students in the Learning Commons. During this time, the librarians are working to create a positive environment for students to feel free to relax before school.
“It is a great way to bring students and staff into the space and just have a sweet treat before they go to their classes,” Weston said.
Coffee Fridays made its return on Friday, April 8th, after a two year absence due to COVID. Patrons of the learning commons remember what Coffee Fridays were like before the pandemic. Junior Jaden Harry was a visitor of the Learning Commons during Coffee Fridays before the pandemic.
“I’m grateful that [Coffee Fridays] are back because they’re cheaper than a normal coffee drink,” Harry said.
The Commons offer four different drinks: coffee, hot chocolate, mocha and a seasonal drink. All drinks range in price from 75 cents to two dollars. Seasonal drinks are often associated with various events or holidays coming up. Since Coffee Fridays have made their return, the seasonal drink has been a Bunny Latte served with bunny sprinkles to celebrate Easter. The librarians implore students to hang out before school in the Learning Commons as well as utilize the resources available to students in the Commons.
“We’re very excited to have Coffee Fridays come back,” Weston said. “The drinks are absolutely delicious and it’s the most affordable coffee you’ll find in St. Charles County. And also, don’t forget to bring your friends if you want it. Also, [the Learning Commons] is open for if you need to print off something for your classes or if you need to check out a book.”
