On Oct. 12 at Becky-David, there will be an event called Cultural Night. The event will be at 6pm and everyone in the district is welcome to attend. Students and parents are encouraged to bring food from their nation and give lessons about their culture such as information about their religion, hairstyles, clothing, etc. ESOL teacher Jennifer Smith is one of the teachers organizing and managing the event. She has been teaching for 18 years.
“As a teacher of students who speak other languages, it’s important for them to feel represented,” Smith said. “They’re a minority and they’d like to showcase their culture.”
The cultural night event has only been done once before last year and was a great success. Students and parents who wish to participate this year will be able to set up a table with anything relating to their culture.
