Senior Hailey Zhang leads many of the clubs at North, including Sun Club, Speech and Debate and FCCLA. While the amount of clubs and activities Zhang is in might be too much for some to handle, she says it’s good for her to be so involved.
“If I’m not busy, I feel anxious, so I end up over-committing myself,” Zhang said. “At the same time, I think you gain so much from clubs.”
Zhang believes students can find many things throughout high school in many of the amazing club opportunities.
“I hope they gain friendships,” Zhang said. “I hope they have lots and lots of fun. I hope they learn a lot from clubs because there’s truly a lot to learn from different clubs, and I think something about clubs is that you meet a lot of people who you normally wouldn’t talk to.”
Zhang is all about connecting people, and she mostly does that through extracurriculars. Since she is in a leadership position in so many of them, Zhang has many goals on how to help people make connections even better.
“I do hope to make it a comfortable space for people,” Zhang said. “A place where people can find friends and do the things that they enjoy doing, but also at the same time, make change. Whether that is volunteering or helping out the community or trying to make our own school sustainable.”
All of the effort Zhang puts into involvement in clubs is hopefully going to pay off in college, where Zhang hopes to go into international relations.
“I want to be able to make change on a bigger scale,” Zhang said. “I feel like that connects back to all the clubs, because I think a part of international relations is being able to talk to people and being a part of a larger community.”
