As the girls lacrosse season comes to a close, the team has experienced many victories. The team had a record of nine wins out of fifteen games, making them a highly competitive team. Senior Kendra Swope was ranked as third in the state for goals per game, with an average of 6.58 goals per game. She has broken the previous school record which was 105 goals.
“This season a lot of people are trying positions they haven’t played before,” head coach Rowan Pugh said. “We were figuring out communication and how to work together with people in new positions.”
The team has stayed consistent with their win streak last season which was 10 wins, they hope to improve with Coach Pugh as the head coach going into the 2025 season. Some personal victories this season were Izzy Lash reaching 300 saves as well as Lauren Robnett getting her 100th goal. These skills were put to use in many competitive games including the game against Clayton which FHN won 13 to 12.
“We started a lot more communication on defense,” senior Maggie Cuccio said. “We slid and crashed in order to help opposing players who were driving not to score. We were working the ball up the field instead of one person just running it up.”
The group has had a very successful season this year and has many aspirations moving forward. They hope to gain several new players in future seasons as they will be losing three seniors. However, with the current 16 juniors on the team they aspire to welcome all new players and give them some advice that they have learned over their career of multiple years of playing.
“We’ve got a group of girls that work really well together,” junior Lea Wenger said. “We’ve gotten to know each other better over the years, so in the game it really shows and we are able to play together really well.”
