The FHN girls’ soccer team’s season has come to an end, with a record of 6-16. There have been many changes throughout the season with players and coaches. The Lady Knights soccer team lost 3 seniors last year and the varsity team has changed a lot with younger players coming up. Coach Havermale has been brought in to be assistant coach along with head Coach Olwig and he has been a huge asset to the team.
“Coach Havermale has been a great addition to the Lady Knights soccer staff, he brings in a wealth of knowledge,” Olwig said. “The ladies have responded to him very well.”
The team has had many ups and downs throughout the season, but Coach Havermale joining the coaching staff has been a positive impact for the team and players. Junior Madelyn Brewer thinks Havermale has been a great add-on to the season.
“Coach Havermale was a welcome addition to the sideline,” Brewer said. “He was a new voice with good ideas to try on the field.”
The Knights have had many good players contribute to the wins during the season especially AJ Kime and Morgan Smith with 3 assists leading the team this season, and freshman Lexi Lohnes, the leading scorer with a total of 7 goals this season. Lohnes feels that the team had a great bond and good chemistry on the field throughout the season.
“We played our best every game and our bond as a team really made us bounce energy off of one another to bring out the best in each other,” Lohnes said. “I will definitely miss our seniors because they were the role models and took all of the freshmen under their wings and were there for us.”
The Knights will be losing 3 seniors that have made a large impact on the team. Cassie Hodgkins, AJ Kime, and Alexis Morlan all led the team through the season. The Knights wrapped up their season losing their 2nd district game to Nerinx Hall.
