One of the most overlooked sports at FHN, the Varsity cross country team is looking to make history this year. The team is hoping to build off of the 23-24 track season as many of the athletes also run cross country.
“We are going to put in as much effort and work in as we can in our practices,” junior Ara Perez said. “We are really good at encouraging one another through it all.”
With tryouts being August 5-9, the team has been preparing for their first meet at McNair on August 30. Last year, the team scored well for being their first meet.
“Our main goal is to improve our race times and this season and put 100% in all we do,” Perez said. “You only get out what you put in and I think that will drive what we do this season.”
Last year’s jumper Jayden Eiland was the only one who made it to state. This season though, there are two new runners who will be joining the girls cross country team, senior Annie Palmer and her sister who is a freshman who are looking to go to state as well.
“We had a really successful team last year and the goal is to get a runner to state, if not a full team,” head coach Kim Martin said.
