While records were broken and there were competitors at state, the FHN boys’s swim team looks to keep up to speed after losing four key seniors. Although some of the seniors weren’t the only state qualifiers, now this year senior team captain Edward Lee is swimming his final season with the Knights and looks to qualify for state yet again this year like he has all three prior years and wants to raise the bar.
“There will definitely be some changes in the team atmosphere with last year’s seniors gone because they really supported us and made the team good and enjoyable, and since they’re gone I feel responsible for leading the team now,” Lee said. “My senior year I want to break some individual records that haven’t been broken in 10 years. I also not only want to qualify for state, but last year I was top 11 and this year my goal is for the top eight.”
While Lee looks to continue to grow and lead the team, they also have some experienced swimmers returning. Some of the varsity Junior returners consist of Caleb Scott, and Lucas Hanson who made their way to state in a relay last year. Senior returners along with Lee include Hunt Everhart who also made his way to state last year in a relay, and Sagar Singh.
“I’m proud of all the accomplishments our team had last year and hope to improve even more this year,” Coach Shawn Farrar. “I also had some boys last year that state really motivated them for this year so I know we will have quite a few more training this offseason so I’m excited to see what they are able to accomplish and maybe we will get some more state cuts out of them and who knows, maybe a couple more records will fall.”
These boys look to kick off their season in late August at the annual Fort Zumwalt West Invitational and will compete at state much later in the year in November, hopefully breaking more records and bringing home more medals.
