It’s that time of the year again at FHN: Homecoming is right around the corner. The month of September is brimming with school spirit and anticipation as it gets closer and closer to the dance. But before the big day, students need to be sure to mark their calendars for the pep assembly on the 27th at 9 a.m..
“Our games are bigger, Homecoming court walks down with the athletes and emcees will be on the field spread out,” Chloe Murray, an emcee for the pep assembly said.
With this being the first pep assembly in the brand new building, things are going to be looking a little different. This year’s assembly will be hosted outside on the new football field, if weather permits. Each class will sit in their assigned section of the bleachers, but the FHN band will have their own section where they’ll perform. This year, Student Council is pulling out all the stops to make sure this is a pep assembly to be remembered.
“We have paid a company to do the decorations [for Homecoming],” Rowan Pugh, English teacher and Student Council sponsor said. “We are able to focus more now on making the pep assembly super crazy and big and fun because we don’t have to spend so much of our time figuring out decorations.”
Even with big changes on the way, students can still expect the same fun and excitement from the assembly as seen in previous years. The parade of champions is bound to get the crowd going. Performances from the FHN band and the Knightline dance crew are essential staples of this event. Plus, students can be expecting to see lots of brand new (and maybe a few returning) games that will allow the different classes to compete against each other. All these events will be led by the chosen emcees: seniors Chloe Murray, Emily Mueller and Will Gorski. Selected for their high energy and charm, they’ll keep the assembly lively and on track.
“We have all the spirit meters spaced out and we’re going to bring the energy to the field or the gym, either one,” Murray said.
The week leading up to the assembly and Homecoming is equally important, as it is spirit week. It is extremely important to show up and show out for these themes because the grade that dresses up the best gets the whole stadium decorated in their class colors. It is up to everyone to determine if it will be the freshmen’s red, the sophomore’s green, the junior’s purple or the senior’s blue that will be seen covering the bleachers.
“Dress up, get hype and represent your grade,” Mueller and Murray said.
