As the student body transitions into the new building, they approach many firsts in this new space. The first Homecoming is approaching in the new North. It will take place on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m..
“Everyone should attend because it’s the very first dance in this new building,” English teacher Rowan Pugh said. “So I would say don’t judge this year’s Homecoming off of past Homecomings. It’s going to be totally different. It’s a new building, new things, new excitement, but you can expect just like and have fun.”
Tickets will be sold the week prior to homecoming for $25, and $30 for guests. They will be sold in the cafeteria during lunch and after school Tuesday, Sept. 24. Guest forms are currently available outside of room 2207 and are on a first-come first-served basis. Forms are due Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. with no exceptions.
“Planning to buy tickets is super important because lines can get long, so we suggest having a driver’s license or student ID ready to go and make sure you’re taken care of all your fines,” Pugh said.
The theme for this year’s Homecoming will be “A knight at Gatsby’s” as decided upon by the student body alongside the student council. Along with the theme, the student body has also influenced the decision on the DJ for this year. For those worried about what songs will be played at the dance, a form will be sent out taking song requests the week leading up to the dance.
“I mean, I’m excited to be at this new school and excited to see where it’s gonna be at, and this is Gatsby, and that’s so creative, I love it,” senior Natalie Gill said.
This year’s homecoming is not like the ones that came before, it’s in a brand new school and all students are encouraged to attend. The week leading up to the dance there will be spirit days, the powderpuff game, a pep assembly and of course the Homecoming football game.
“I’m excited to go out with my boyfriend this year,” sophomore Leo McClure said. “I’m excited to have it in the commons in a nicer school.”
