In the last four years, FHN has been unable to play its home football games at North. First it was Covid limiting human interaction, then the destruction of the old field to make room for a new one, and even after all of this, due to the construction of the new FHN building, we were still unable to use the field and instead had to resort to practicing and playing games at Central’s field.
“I thought [not playing at North] was super annoying, I didn’t like playing on the central field because we were playing on our rival schools field, it was really weird playing a home game at central.” sophomore football player Diesel Blanton said.
However, this year the new field is finally done and is being put to use for the first time. Many people, from coaches and players, to students, staff and parents are excited about what the addition of a new football stadium brings.
“We haven’t had a home game in forever and it’s super cool we finally have one,” junior Dylan Knaggs said.
North having its own field that doesn’t include Central logos and symbols to play games and practice on will add a lot to the sense of community and pride that give events and games held there a completely different feel. As well as adding uniqueness to FHN’s field and sports teams that was lost when the old field was destroyed.
“I am just excited about the feeling of home that the new field has,” Varsity cheer coach Tracy Wuertenberg said. “Just the idea of having our place is going to create a lot more spirit.”
