There are many modes of transportation that students use to get to school everyday. You could take the bus or drive but there’s one more, often neglected option that a decent majority of students take, biking. There are many reasons why students may choose to ride their bike to school, they could do it out of necessity, maybe there house is close enough that its unnecessary to drive there car up, or they could just enjoy the feeling of hopping on a bike and feeling the open air and getting a decent exercise in as well.
“I bike here because I literally have to, I don’t have a car,” sophomore Evan Adams said. “I like biking through all the woods and stuff, feeling like the wind in my hair.”
Biking can give you a great start to your day, being able to breath in the fresh air and quickly zoom all through the paths and streets before arriving at school can be a great way to start off a day where most people will have to stay inside most of the time. As well as this some students just simply do not have the choice to come to school via car and for those in a short enough range of the school, they are not offered the option of the bus either, making convenience in the parking lots for bikers a necessity.
“Before [the new building] I’d have to go all the way around the school to the back, park, and then run all the way to the front which was a pain, now I just park in the front and walk in,” sophomore Conner Harmon said. “Plus it’s closer, this one’s by Henderson so I literally just pull up, park my bike and go inside.”
The new parking lot is situated in a much more bike focused spot, allowing for more paths for bikes to cross over, and safer sidewalks that take all the previous issues out. Now instead of having to bike alongside the cars and use the light signal to cross, after which they would have to bike around to the other side of the building. Now students can just cross, park and walk in, streamlining the experience for students who choose to bike.
The new building offers a far easier and safer parking lot layout for students who travel to school in all sorts of different ways, fixing another less focused issue that the previous building had, and giving everyone an opportunity to get to school comfortably and on time.
