While many enjoy the taste and caffeine surge of a cold energy drink, many don’t understand what is in an energy drink and the positive and negatives of drinking them. Energy drinks can give you a boost of energy and also increase a person’s attention.
“I like the original Red Bull or strawberry flavored Monster the most,” Junior Rosie Borden said. “I drink about one a day to every other day and I drink them to have the energy to motivate myself to do school work and stay awake especially when I stay up late.”
Between trying to stay awake after a long night of studying or just to get that rush of caffeine that keeps hard-working students going, energy drinks do sometimes have negative effects on people, especially the younger generation.
According to the CDC, energy drinks can cause dehydration, heart failure, and severe anxiety. These are some of the many negative effects but are the main reason some people experience complications with energy drinks. Some people can’t have energy drinks at all due to complications they were born with and if they were to drink one it could cause serious life problems.
“I feel that students should find better kinds of drinks to have other than energy drinks because they are bad for your mind and body, I’ve never been a fan of energy drinks because they have always make my head hurt and my heart race and I don’t feel the best after drinking them,” said sophomore Paige Foster.
Although energy drinks are a huge part of a lot of student’s lives, they should be monitored to make sure they’re not drinking too much which will affect their health and future quality of life as well as mess with your sleep schedule.
