Records are meant to be broken, and on Oct. 2, 2024, Edward Lee broke a long-time school record for FHN boys swim.
“That record has been there for more than 20 years, and breaking that felt new and something to remember,” Lee said.
Lee is the captain of the FHN boys swim team. He had been swimming for several years prior to breaking the 50-yard freestyle record with a time of 22.28 seconds.
“Coach Farrar helped me prepare for this, and the underclassmen, without their cheer, I probably wouldn’t of done it.” Lee said.
Shawn Farrar is the boy’s swim head coach at FHN. He has been coaching for three years at FHN and plans to continue with them. Farrar has done lots to see the boys succeed on his team.
“ I didn’t have an impact, my job as a coach is just to give them the tools that they need to succeed, and whether they choose to use those tools or not is up to them,” Farrar said.
Lee has a big impact on the team as captain and has helped the team connect more.
“We’ve got to all bond over that, especially since he’s such a pivotal part of the team, he’s been captain for every year that I’ve been coaching on the team, so everybody kind of circles around him, and everybody rallies behind him because he kind of keeps everybody together,” Farrar said.
Lee has also had a lot of help from the managers when breaking this record. With them doing as much as they could to get him to break this record.
“I had five timers on me, and that felt really special. So that actually helped me a lot,” Lee said.
This achievement has helped the team bond and reinforces to the underclassmen that with hard work and dedication you can achieve these goals.
