Despite technical difficulties, FHN Masque Players had their first musical ‘Grease’ in the new building, and members of the cast are calling it a success.
“Overall it was pretty well done,” junior Jaiden Minnella said. “We had a nice set, and there were a few technical difficulties but I think overall everyone did a great job. It was one of the best shows we’ve ever done.”
As the lead and her first time in the spotlight, Minnella, who plays Sandy, was under a lot of scrutiny.
“My least favorite part was probably the pressure because there was a lot going on, and I don’t usually do cast so I wasn’t used to it,” Minnella said. “There’s a lot of pressure to make it a good show, especially since we’re in the new building and it’s the first show here.”
While Minnella practiced her part, the other crews had to figure out an entirely new system. This was especially true for the tech crew who run the lights and sound. With new equipment and a different auditorium from the old school, the microphones were not working properly for all of the show nights.
“I hope we get the lights and sound working a lot better, but obviously this is the first show in the new building so we’re still working out the lights and sound,” Minnella said.
Both cast and crew had to work hard to make sure the show went smoothly. However, junior Adrielle Aruya, who plays Rizzo in the musical describes how it wasn’t as seamless as it may seem.
“My least favorite part of the show was the amount of canceled rehearsals and absent cast members because we couldn’t do anything without them, and it caused us to essentially rush the whole tech week,” Aruya said.
Despite the setbacks, both actors felt the show went relatively well and are looking forward to the next one. And who knows, there may be a real car in the next one too.
“I feel like there’s definitely a lot of potential for the next show,” Minnella said.
