The FHN girls softball team went 6-4 during the 2024-25 season. Though they were starting a team fresh with lots of new girls this year, it ended up taking a turn for the better by the end of the season.
“By the end of our season we all knew each other well and became closer,” sophomore Leah Fajatin said.
There were some struggles to figure out positions, and getting the team to talk and connect on and off the field but the girls persisted.
“At the beginning of the season everyone was very quiet and didn’t talk on the field,” sophomore Grace Farley said. “But by the end of the season, it was very loud and everyone was talking on the field and cheering each other on.”
Lexi Lohnes, Nina Hewlett, and Leah Fahatin have all been key players for the team this year.
“Lexi brought pretty much everything to the team from being a great athlete to being a great person on and off the field as well as Nina bringing a great attitude,” Farley said. “ Leah also brought a great batter to our lineup and could always get a run on the board.”
Though the girls had a bit of a slow start they really worked and pushed themselves, resulting in a win against Hazelwood West, taking them to the second round of districts where they ended their season.
“About halfway through our season we had a 10-game losing streak and everyone’s confidence was down but the week before districts we got out of our heads and we played how we should’ve all year,” Farley said. “You could tell we were actually having fun and competed hard till the 2nd round of districts.”
