At FHN, Knights of Excellence (KOE) is a club that strives to make a positive difference in the community by bringing together students who enjoy helping others and taking on the responsibility of having a leadership role.
“We try to just celebrate people all around FHN that are like making the school a better place. We also do mentoring activities to try to help the freshmen,” sponsor Lindsey Scheller said.
KOE is a unique club because, unlike other clubs at FHN, KOE doesn’t have one specific topic they focus on.
“I think that a lot of times there is a lot of spotlight put on negative things that are happening in schools,” Scheller said. “And so that’s the thing I’ve always loved about KOE is that I think we try to do a really good job of spotlighting all the very positive things.”
Although KOE is such a large club, students still get the opportunities to take on and experience having a leadership role.
“It offers like a leadership role, so it kind of like also holds you accountable on your part in KOE,” member Jasmine Dong said.
Even with all the weekly stuff KOE has going on, they always make time for special days and holidays, one of them being Halloween.
“We’ve got a couple of things, so we are selling Boo Grams, that’ll be like balloons and candy and notes, that will like be handed out to people in classes, And then we are, we also partnered with Henderson Elementary to run a trunk or treat,” Scheller said
Upgrading to a new building wasn’t the only thing that changed this year, because KOE has also experienced quite a bit of change this year.
“So this year it’s honestly been really different because we joined up together with the mentor club from last year,” Scheller said. “So we sort of just realized that a lot of kids that were in mentors club and a lot of kids that were in KOE were kind of the same group anyway, so we thought we would like combine them together, and then that way we could partner with one another.”
