For many, homecoming is very stressful but fun. Picking out an outfit, hair and makeup, and squeezing in an appointment to get your nails done are among many of the activities associated with the event. However, through the chaos, Senior Ananya Bitra took the time out of her week to do people’s nails for Homecoming.
“I started doing my nails when I was in middle school with a gel kit,” Bitra said. “But I’ve kind of just been doing them for family friends since I was in middle school. I’d love to paint my nails. And I would always watch YouTubers do their nails like, simply Nailogical, and just like other people do nails.”
When doing people’s nails for homecoming, Bitra never really advertised doing people’s nails. Instead, they came up to her.
“I would always have my nails done, and everyone would compliment them,” Bitra said. “And so whenever I said that I was the one who did them, they would always be like, ‘Oh, my God, can you do my nails?’”
Senior Grace Fromme, a customer and friend of Bitra, loved the nails, but are they better than the professionals?
“It wasn’t awkward, sometimes it’s really awkward that, like, as a salon, when you’re like, somebody’s like, touching your hands and you don’t know them, she really took her time and made sure that they were perfect,” Fromme said.
Bitra never had a set price for the nails she did.
“I didn’t really charge a specific amount,” Bitra said. “It’s just whatever people wanted to pay. But I would say $20 minimum, because I’m not like a high-end nail tech who can charge a lot, or wants to charge a lot, so just kind of whatever people want.”
This isn’t the last time Bitra plans on doing nails.
“A lot of people have asked me to do their nails for like, other times too,” Bitra said. “I have a friend that’s going to Greece, and she asked me to do her nails for that.”
