There’s nothing better than a pep assembly to get students excited for the Snowcoming Dance. On Feb. 28, after the end of class periods, a pep assembly was hosted by the student council in the gymnasium to showcase the talent of our cheer squads and inspire some friendly inter-class competition. The gym was decked out with senior blue to celebrate the Class of 2025’s victory as the grade level with the most participation in the preceding spirit week.
“I was hyped beforehand,” senior Riley Kloecker said. “Mostly just seeing the decorations and stuff had me a bit hype that it would be better.”
The assembly started off with the national anthem being sung by Knight Sound before the emcees introduced themselves and the show was off. Each of the winter sports teams were introduced and paraded into the gym followed by the 2024-2025 Snowcoming Court. After the athletes were introduced, both junior varsity and varsity cheer gave performances.
“They were pretty good,” Kloecker said. “Some of the dancing was a bit scuffed, but everything, even the scuffed part was really good.”
During the pep assembly, a number of games were played to let the classes battle it out for schoolwide domination. The first game played was a four way tug-of-war contest where the seniors ended up coming out on top landing them the first victory of the day.
“[The games] are not rigged,” Kloecker said. “They are so fair, we’re just better.”
After the first game, Knightline gave quite the performance with the faculty of FHN. Over the next twenty minutes a myriad of different games were played. A round of Hungry Hungry Hippos, where one person would push around another person from their class on a cart to collect more dodgeballs than the other classes, ended up being won by the seniors. After that, a pickleball tournament was held with each class partnering up with a teacher to take on the other classes. After the seniors beat the sophomores and the freshmen beat the juniors, the seniors went head to head against the freshmen. The seniors ended up coming out on top.
“The seniors were rigging it,” sophomore Bella Ingrassia said. “Like that one guy kicked the ball towards the seniors. The seniors are rigging it.”
In the final minutes of the pep assembly, something shocking happened. The seniors lost. In an unexpected turn of events, during a thrilling game of Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Ground, the seniors were defeated. At the same time, the juniors were also defeated leaving only the freshmen and sophomores in the final round. The freshmen ended up taking the win which was the only game that the seniors lost.
“That was also rigged because like it was supposed to be the seniors and the juniors and then it turned into the freshmen and the sophomores,” junior Prakul Bhattarai said. “They obviously rigged it because the seniors didn’t want to lose to the juniors.”
