Being at school seven hours a day can make students very hungry. But sometimes the everyday school lunch isn’t enough. Stopping by business teachers Abigail Davis and Michael Freedline’s room to purchase a bag of DECA cookies has become an everyday routine for a lot of students. An estimated 200 bags of DECA cookies are sold a day here at FHN.
“I think DECA cookies are so popular because they are something quick that you can get and they are cheap,” sophomore Jocelyn Hart said. “I had to stop keeping money in my wallet so I couldn’t buy them.”
With the obvious popularity and love towards DECA cookies here at FHN, a lot of money is collected every day that they are sold. DECA cookies are sold in order to make money for the DECA and FBLA competitions, so they can travel to competitions such as state and nationals. The cookies are made in the morning before school during first hour. DECA officers then put two cookies in each bag, and then place the cookie bags into the bins. The DECA officers help by getting the cookies prepared and set during first hour, so that they are ready to be sold for the day.
“I like DECA cookies because they give you a burst of flavor in your mouth, they are so gooey, and not like any cookie I have had before,” sophomore Layla Pohtos said.
Besides the cheap price and convenience, DECA cookies are known for their incredible taste. Many students here at FHN find them to be addicting, and buy them frequently. Even though the cookies are simply Otis Spunkmeyer brand, there seems to be a uniqueness about DECA cookies that keeps this small business running.
“DECA cookies are so popular because they taste delicious,” intro to business and marketing teacher Davis said.
