On March 18, the Francis Howell school district sent out an email announcing the new superintendent for the district. Dr. Kenneth Roumpus, the current superintendent, will be taking on a new role at the Kirkwood school district. Mike Dominguez, who has a doctorate in education, will officially be a part of the district starting on July 1.
“I’m honored to be joining such a high-performing district,” Dominguez said.
Dominguez is currently the superintendent at Garden City public schools, after being both a wrestling coach and a superintendent in Texas. He has worked in multiple other positions, including assistant principal, principal, teacher, coach and superintendent.
“My favorite roles have been assistant principal and superintendent,” Dominguez said.
Dominguez, although not yet officially working in the district, has bright plans ahead. He prioritizes building relationships within the community and listening to the needs of the students, staff and parents. He has plans to host a meet and greet called “Meetings With Mike”, where anyone will be able to attend and meet him, along with asking him questions or voice what they want to see during his time in the district.
“We want to hear from students and parents and what they need,” Dominguez said. “Their opinion matters.”
Education itself also plays an important role in Dominguez’s plan. He wants to better the reading levels starting in the third grade and get them back up to par, along with other aspects of general education in the younger years of schooling. Dominguez is excited to meet with and listen to the community of his new district, and looks forward to the years to come.
“If you have ambitions and bright students,” Dominguez said. “That really is a huge plus.”
