After three years of service, head principal Jeffrey Fletcher departs FHN. He reminisces about the memories he has had and his appreciation for these years of being the principal.
“Kids graduating every year, helping teachers grow, and just interacting with people is my favorite part of the whole job,” Fletcher said.
As he leaves the school in the hands of the incoming principal, Jon Schultz, he leaves some knowledge and advice, so it will be a smooth handover for Schultz and the FHN community as a whole.
“[My] key advice [for Schultz] is to build relationships, get to know the culture, get to know the kids, the students, and parents,” Fletcher said. “It’s a really awesome community here, so embedding himself in that culture in the community [will help him] really kind of embrace it. I’m just providing him with as much information and knowledge as I can so that it is a very smooth [transition] when he takes over next year.”
Although it’s going to be a new experience for Schultz – going from associate principal at Howell to head principal at North – he is excited for this new chapter and return to FHN.
“I’m really excited to return to FHN,” Schultz said. “I’m at a good stage of my life where I’m ready to take on new responsibilities and new challenges and get out there, [also] continue to further my career and build new relationships with the community.”
As it is an exciting experience for Schultz, there are some challenges for him, but he’s ready to take those challenges on and enters FHN with a positive message.
“I think the biggest challenge will be getting to know the community and letting them get to know me,” Schultz said. I think it’s really important that before any major changes are enacted or for us to make any real progress, we’re going to have to establish trust and build a relationship, but I think that the community has always been very strong [at FHN] and I’m looking forward to joining.”
