Following many weeks of speculation and anticipation, the Knights have officially named their newest head varsity football coach. Coach Erick Webster, who is a long term veteran when it comes to coaching high school, with 20 years of experience under his belt in Arkansas and Missouri.
In those 20 years, Webster made a couple of stops at different schools, including Union High School, in Union, Missouri and another school in our district, Francis Howell Central. While with the Spartans, Webster faced the Knights four times.
“There was a lot of fight. There was never a give up or quit moment,” Webster said. “Even those three years that we won, it was something we had to earn and something we had to continue to earn throughout the whole game.”
While at Union High School, Webster met FHN’s current assistant athletic director Dusty Weiskoff. During this time, they had a shared vision for the sports programs there that they hope to see come to fruition here at North.
“We worked really, really closely trying to develop a building-wide strength and conditioning plan to make all of our athletes better,” Webster said.
With the new strength and conditioning programs, Webster hopes to bring some things in addition to strength in the weight room and on the field.
With the new additions to the coaching staff, there are bound to be some alterations to how the offense and defense look and run. Particularly changing how and where players line up and the plays that we run.
“One of the goals that we have is that we’re just going to spread it around,” Webster said. “So, you know, if you’re not covering a guy, we need to get him the ball in space, and let’s see what he can do, and then let’s get the ball to the next guy in space.”
With the team having met Webster on the April 4th, both sides had their first impressions on eachother.
Often players aren’t very receptive to change in the coaching staff, but it’s different for these Knight’s who are ready for a change.
“At first I was on the fence about him, but once he started telling us his plans for the program I began to respect him and take him more seriously,” junior linebacker Javon Godfrey said.
